JUNE 28 - JULY 1 2007

The Girls’ Studies and Activism Institute–an embedded event at the NWSA 2007 Annual Conference–will focus on the exciting and emerging field of girls’ studies and girl-centered activism.

Girls, their parents, and their teachers are especially encouraged to attend and participate in the Girls’ Studies and Activism Institute, and in the larger NWSA conference. Continuing Professional Development Units will be available through Northern Illinois University for K-12 Teachers.

  • Conference sessions will explore issues pertinent to K-12 and higher education curriculum development focusing on girls’ issues and girls’ empowerment
  • Tours and other events will focus on girl-centered projects in the Chicago area, such as the Viola Project and BeyondMedia, which develop empowerment through performance and storytelling
